Soorya Ray Resels
My name is Soorya Ray Resels. I’ve spent many years studying and teaching (meditation, Ashtanga Yoga philosophy, Vedant and Kirtan/chanting) at the International Meditation Institute in the Himalayas, India and our associated centres (The Netherlands, Vermont USA, Montreal, Toronto, and Vancouver Canada).
Yoga has been an important part of my life since I first went to India in 1978. Ever since then, I’ve maintained a regular spiritual discipline to improve the quality of my life and help others do the same. Leaving India 23 years later, I continued pursuing studies to facilitate mental and emotional clearing and body centred practices as a Life/Relationship Coach.
Recently I completed a 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training at the Salt Spring Centre of Yoga.
We are never too old to learn and enjoy yoga! Using props and modifying poses we learn to stretch from the inside. It is this training that has inspired me to create a new class that focuses on body, breath and stillness.
There is a wealth of wisdom within everyone that comes forth by revitalizing the body, calming the breath and mind, and clearing mental and emotional distractions. With a few minutes of regular practice every day, you can feel the positive effects in your life.

We’ve been on a Yoga/Meditation journey since 1971. At the International Meditation Institute, Himalayas, India, we trained in and taught Yoga Science, Vedant Philosophy, and the Benefits and Practice of Meditation for over 20 years. We see Yoga as an evolving discipline of how to live in stability in an unstable world. We continue to meditate daily and practice yoga and breathing techniques for inner and outer flexibility and well-being.
We have done extensive training in the Enlightenment Intensive and Clearing techniques and have offered Enlightenment Intensive retreats and workshops in the Vancouver area.
In Vancouver, we are on the faculty of Open Door Yoga and teach the Philosophy of Yoga as part of their 200 hour Hatha Teacher Training Program. What delights us is hearing from our students their new awarenesses and insights as they discover how to relate key ancient universal principles to their contemporary lives. Our students enjoy applying the yogic principles that promote in-the-moment presence, contentment, and self-responsibility. They experience themselves as part of a living legacy.
Our own evolving relationship of 40+ years has also been a great teacher for us. It has inspired us to discover what makes relationship work and to become Certified Conscious Loving and Living Coaches (Hendricks Institute).
We continue to both learn and teach as spiritual mentors and life and relationship coaches here on Bowen Island, where we have recently moved and now enthusiastically live.
For us, happiness is an inside job, and so we delight in discovering new applications of ancient wisdom principles. It’s all about adding greater perspective to life’s challenges and being willing to grow by facing each situation with ever-increasing awareness and humour.
