Bowen Island Yoga is thrilled to host this dharma study and practice group, under the guidance of the skilful and practised teacher, Helen Foster. While this group is entirely suitable for people who are generally interested in meditation/mindfulness instruction, it will appeal most to those who want to explore the origins and depths of these now wildly popular practices. Buddhadharma is the study and practice of liberation it does not presuppose a necessity to be a Buddhist.

As a topic this fall, we will focus on "The View, The Meditation and Conduct". Mahamudra, "the Great View" (also called Dzogchen) is the natural mind uncovered. Freeing from delusions and suffering; motivated by compassion. Meditation is a skill we craft and practice, like learning to swim as we are swept along through the river of time called our lives. Understanding conduct is knowing what seeds we are sowing and the fruit our actions will bear. The great view is the simultaneous understanding of ultimate and relative reality that gives rise to wise and compassionate action.

About the instructor:

Helen Foster is a meditation and dharma teacher who has practised meditation for over 40 years.  For the past 15 years, with her root teacher Lama Mark Webber, her studies have been centred around the classical foundations of Buddhadharma, including multiple deep retreats of 3 to 5 months in length. She is the Chair of a non profit society that supports her teacher and other significant Tibetan Buddhist teachers (

Helen studied Iyengar Yoga, with Maureen Carruthers, for 14 years while they were both living on Galiano Island. While not on retreat or travelling (studying 'Mahamudra in Motion" with Prapto in Java, 2008, or Varjayogini in a Lamaruyu Monastery Ledakh, 2005 or Tibet in 2010), she lives and gardens on Bowen Island with her partner, also a seasoned, life-long dharma practitioner.
